Why wiping matters
A factory reset removes apps and local files, but good preparation starts earlier: back up important content, sign out of accounts, remove screen locks, and disconnect cloud services.
Recommended sequence
Transfer photos and documents, export contacts where needed, remove Google and manufacturer accounts, disable device protection features, encrypt older devices when available, then run a factory reset from system settings.
After reset
Restart the phone to confirm it opens at the first setup screen. Remove SD cards and SIM cards, clean the device physically, and keep a note of the model and serial number for your records.
Extra caution
For devices with sensitive work files, use your organization’s mobile device management process or consult the manufacturer’s official support documentation before transferring ownership.
